Week 4

In the second half of the second month your baby is able to focus on objects at a distance that are 20 cms away. She is also able to track them when moved. Around this time, your baby is also able to glance at her hand. Glancing at her hand and taking notice of it is a significant developmental milestone. This is the first step towards reaching out and grabbing things.

Good foods for nursing mothers

By this time you must have got a grip over breastfeeding techniques. You are well aware that breast milk is the single most source of energy and nutrition for your baby and aids in the overall brain, body, immunity and health development of the baby. Here are top foods that increase your milk production.

Ginger: This is a wonder food not just to keep morning sickness at bay but to also keep the milk flowing

Oatmeal: Apart from cutting down cholesterol and regulating blood pressure, oats also helps in increasing the supply of breast milk.

Carrot: An easy tasty snack, carrot has the necessary beta carotene that is an essential nutrient at this time. It also provides the necessary potassium.

Fennel: Fennel is full of phytoestrogens that aid in milk production. So sauté them for your next curry

Nuts: Nuts are good for lactation. They are also good source of good fats and antioxidants. Have a handful of nuts during snack time.

Green Papaya:This is an Asian delicacy and much of Thai food includes green papaya.

Sesame seeds: This tasty seed is rich in calcium. Don’t just sprinkle them on your salads. Have them in richer forms such as sesame paste.

Water: While water may not be technically food, you need to keep yourself hydrated to ensure that you produce milk. Ensure you drink at least 8 glasses of water every day.
Garlic: Garlic has been traditionally used for centuries by nursing mothers. We all know that garlic lends a delicious taste to foods. Those who detest the taste can still get the benefits through garlic pills.
