LifeCell launches Disaster Relief Program for preserved stem cells
~ Guarantees payment against sample deterioration due to unforeseen incidents ~

LifeCell International, India’s largest and premier umbilical cord and menstrual blood stem cell bank today launched its ‘Disaster Relief Program’ to provide relief to its customers in the instance of the preserved stem cells being subjected to deterioration, destruction or loss of sample due to unforeseen incidents. With this unique and first of its kind initiative LifeCell is the first stem cell bank globally to provide relief for its clients in the best possible way in the event of a disaster.
Under this program LifeCell guarantees a financial support of up to Rs.10,00,000 (Rupees Ten Lakhs) in the event of a future disaster that may cause loss or deterioration of the precious stem cells and when the client requires his preserved stem cells for a transplant. This financial support can be utilized to purchase a matching stem cell unit from any public stem cell bank worldwide.
The program will cover deterioration, destruction or loss of preserved stem cell sample of the clients arising due to earthquake, fire, lightning, storm, floods, acts of war or terrorism, burglary and power failure.
Commenting on this initiative Mr Mayur Abhaya, Executive Director said “Our biggest asset and responsibility are our clients’ stem cells which have been entrusted to us for long-term storage. While we have ensured compliance to international standards for preservation of stem cells, this Disaster Relief Program is to provide security against unforeseen natural and human triggered disasters which are not within the control of LifeCell. We believe that this initiative will instil further confidence among our customers as we understand and provide solutions to their future concerns proactively”. To deliver on this promise LifeCell has insured the samples preserved under cold storage for a value of Rs 1 billion. In fact this unique insurance makes the preserved stem cells more secured than the valuables stored in the bank lockers..

The insurance cover would be limited to the period of contract signed between LifeCell and the client. The payment would be released on transplant requirement of preserved stem cells and when the same is unavailable due to above conditions.
