Beverages to Avoid During Pregnancy

Is this your first pregnancy and you’re not sure of the pregnancy diet? You are not alone. A lot of soon-to-be mothers aren’t aware of the list of food items to avoid during pregnancy. Here is a compilation of all the beverages that should be avoided for a healthy pregnancy:

Alcoholic Beverages:

It is best to avoid all the alcoholic drinks during the 9 months of pregnancy. This will protect your child from serious health conditions. If you are trying to get pregnant, it is good to stop right away and concentrate on healthy diet. Alcohol is not good during breastfeeding also, as it has adverse effects on the child.

Unpasteurized Milk:

If you are pregnant, consume boiled milk to avoid infections. The unpasteurized milk may contain bacteria and causes food borne disease which can cross over the placenta and cause neurological problems in the fetus.

Caffeinated Drinks:

Limit your intake of coffee and other caffeinated drinks for the next nine months. You can have one or two cups of coffee everyday but try to cut down the amount for a healthy diet. Avoiding coffee can also help you control nausea.

Iced Tea:

Iced tea is a refreshing drink but try to limit the intake as it contains caffeine. You can have it once in a while when you experience food craving.

Soft Drinks:

Most soft drinks contain caffeine while some contains chemical called ‘quinine’ which may cause damages, if consumed regularly. Cut down these fizzy drinks and take natural fruit juices to boost your nutrition.

Diet Soda:

This drink is loaded with caffeine and artificial sweeteners which are not good during pregnancy. Some artificial sweeteners are capable of causing damages to the fetus.
