Are you an expectant mother with a fast-approaching due date? Well, don’t panic. We’ve got the perfect delivery hospital bag checklist for you! Furthermore, this blog has one more “surprise essential” to add, which you'll discover about in the end. So mama-to-be, take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy reading the list.

1. Comfy Clothing!

Your most comfortable pjs (or gown) and socks should be the firsts in your hospital bag checklist. Your nursing bras and those ‘special’ homecoming outfits for you and your little one should go in next.

2. Essentials & Toiletries

Although most maternity hospitals are well-equipped and provide all of the basic necessities, we still recommend bringing your own toiletries. You may cross-check your delivery hospital bag checklist to avoid last-minute panics.

  • Toothbrush
  • Shampoo, conditioner and face & body cleanser
  • Hairbrush
  • Postpartum sanitary napkins
  • Wet wipes & tissues
  • Hair ties
  • Skincare
  • Sanitizer spray or wipes

3. Important Docs

Packing for your hospital trip is no less of a hassle than packing for a vacation. Which is why, as expecting parents, the couple must carry all necessary documents ahead of time. You can't risk rushing out for printouts or searching through your phone for online documents at the last minute! A picture ID, hospital registration forms, health insurance information, and your doctor's prescription are among the main documents (and photocopies) that need to be put on your hospital bag checklist. Trust us - you’ll thank us later for this ;)!

4. Cash & Cards

We all know that everything is now online, and you can simply “tap to pay” with your mobile phone. However, you cannot rely solely on online payments, which is why we recommend carrying a sufficient amount of cash along with your debit or credit cards. Carrying these will help you easily make last-minute purchases such as medicines, snacks, and so on.

5. Pillow Or A Plushie!

Yes! Hospitals provide bedding, covers, and pillows, but they aren't always comfortable. Pillows that are too soft or too stiff may make you feel uneasy and uncomfortable when all you need is a good nap! So, dear mom-to-be, don't forget to include your favorite pillow or plushie in your delivery hospital bag checklist.

6. Healthy & Homemade Snacks

A craving can strike at any time, which is why it's always a good idea to pack some homemade snacks that are healthy and rich in essential nutrients. Additionally, keeping extra snacks will be beneficial not only for you but also for your better half who will be accompanying you.

7. Phone, Charger & Power Bank

While forgetting your phone and charger may seem “out of the question” in this day and age, it is all too common when labor pains get the best of you! While you might not be able to pack your phone and charger ahead of time, you can simply ask your partner, a friend, or a relative to remind you of the same when D-Day arrives! Apart from these, it will be helpful if you also carry a fully charged power bank to assist you in an emergency.

8. Baby Blanket

Your baby is new to the world, and they need to be swaddled to feel safe and secure. So, while you're preparing your hospital bag checklist, don't forget to include one or two baby blankets in it. When combined with your loving embrace, these blankets can give your newborn an extra “warm and comfy” hug!

9. Books & Magazines

You may want to read books or magazines to entertain yourself (after birth or in between irregular labor pains). Depending on how your labor goes, you might want to load your smartphone with some movies or series that you've been wanting to watch! Anyhow, you can also pack a couple of newborn care books or magazines to pass time just in case your labor or discharge formalities get delayed.
