Transmission occurs between individuals via contact with infected skin or mucous membranes, commonly during sexual intercourse.1 The common symptoms of syphilis in the primary stage includes painless sore that usually appears on the genitals, anus, or mouth.1, 2 If left untreated, syphilis can progress which can further cause rash, hair loss, fever, swollen lymph nodes, muscle pain and even paralysis in some cases.3, 4 Therefore, it is important to identify and treat syphilis as early as possible to avoid these long-term complications.
