29th Week Pregnancy Highlights

Rapid Brain Growth

From now until birth, your baby’s brain will develop rapidly as deep grooves form to allow more surface area for neurons. Brain will also triple in weight.

Rings Off!

If you are fond of wearing finger rings, it’s the right time to take them off. As your fingers begin to swell, waiting any longer could result in a bigger disaster - cutting them off by a jeweller.

How Big is Your Baby?

The baby is rapidly gaining weight in the form of fat deposits, which will serve as an energy source. Due to the fat deposits, the wrinkled skin will smooth out and within the next 11 weeks, the baby tends to double or even triple his/her whole body weight. The frequent kicks and movements are a good sign of the baby's development. Vernix Caseosa, the waxy white substance protecting the baby's skin, slowly starts to disappear as the baby now has lanugo (fine downy hair) covering the body.

Your breasts can be heavy and your body may become swollen and puffy, especially your hands, feet, ankles, and fingers.

By week 29, your belly might become so large that you can’t even see your legs anymore while standing up.

From this week, try to keep track of your baby’s movements and kick counts as it will help you to identify if the baby is active or not. Try to lie down and count the kicks, 10 in an hour is normal.

You can consult your gynecologist to understand the baby movements and kick counts.

This is a preconception phase and you need to take better care of yourself to ensure a smooth pregnancy. Therefore, you should:

  • Do not try to lower the AC temperature to feel better because sometimes the body cools on its own to overcome excess heat. It is better to stay in a ventilated room and keep yourself hydrated.
  • If you feel that your fingers and toes are swollen, remove the toe rings and finger rings because most pregnant women tend to gain a few more pounds in the coming weeks.
  • Varicose veins may sometimes be painful, so consult your physician and get medical advice on how to handle it.
  • Start wearing loose pregnancy clothes to stay comfortable during work.
